Piano Lessons in Dongtan · YM MUSICFrom hands that reproduce the score
to hands that create in the moment.
Where classical piano focuses on 'reproducing' what's written in the score as accurately as possible, the heart of jazz and contemporary piano is 'improvisation' — making a different choice each time over the same chord progression. The fingers are the same, but the way you train is completely different.
YM MUSIC teaches piano grounded in jazz and contemporary music. Accurate touch and fingering matter just as much as in classical, but instead of following each note on the page exactly, you learn to read chord symbols and build sound on top of them yourself.
Once you understand this difference, you reach the moment you can play a favorite song your own way, without sheet music.
Train hands and ears together
Chord theory, scales and rhythm training go hand in hand. If classical aims at 'accurate reproduction', this stage focuses on building the instinct of reading chords and letting your hands respond.
Start improvising
Practice ad-libbing, where you create melodies yourself over chord progressions, and arranging in many genres such as pop, jazz and bossa nova.
Expand to the stage and ensemble
In ensemble with other instruments, experience for real the role of accompanist and sometimes leader.
Lessons that pair well
Real music. Real practice.
A different path from classical,
but the same 1:1 personalized curriculum tailored to your goal (hobby · major · exam prep).
What you need isn't hands that memorize the right answer — it's ears that choose for themselves in the moment. Let's find that sound together, starting now.
